From ASHES does a 5K

Posted by Ashley Waddell on

Recently I shared a post on the Facebook page with a link to sign up for a 5K hosted by To Write Love on Her Arms. I shared the post with a note that anyone who shared a picture of them doing the 5K would get a discount. Why did I share it? Not for the reason you might think.

TWLOHA is not sponsoring this post, and honestly will probably never even see it. I wanted to create a post, and share it with you, to show why this 5K was important to me. I debated for quite a while back in April on running this 5K. When I saw this year's phrase- I knew it was the right thing to do.... even if I had not done a 5K since Jan 2020. "Nothing can take away how far you've come" Isn't that amazing? Think about that.... no matter what happens, nothing can take the experiences and victories from you. They are all yours, forever. Every time you've survived something- that's your strength to keep.

Now, if you're not familiar with To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA)- they are a non-profit company. You can find out more about them on their website or google. They focus on helping those with depression, anxiety and more find help and surviving. Why is this important to me? Well, it's something I struggle with. It is also something I have lost loved ones to.

Fighting depression and anxiety is something that I am passionate about. Passionate for myself, and for others. There is a stigma around those with depression and other mental illnesses that unfortunately discourages some from seeking help. In the future, I hope to incorporate more mental-positive items to show our support of those who struggle. Until then, you can catch us doing the Run for it 5K every year and check out some of the other stuff we have made Here
